Telling Stories That Matter

Who is this course for: Communication, programme and project staff, fundraising staff, senior leaders—anyone with a responsibility to tell stories that matter for their organisation

Why you should choose this course: This course will help you tell powerful stories about your work and why it matters. By bringing together different perspectives across your organisation, this course will provide techniques for telling stories with creativity, to make new and powerful connections with audiences. The result will be stories that are not cliches, and that more accurately reflect your work. This course helps you tell stories with broader representation across your organisation:  stories that matter and that show why your work is important.

Many organisations struggle to tell effective stories. This could be because there is not enough opportunity or incentive to be creative, not enough support for telling stories across different positions in the organisation, or a lack of clarity about how to tell a powerful story that can reach audiences. This course helps you address these gaps.

What you get: This course treats everyone on the course as a potential storyteller and builds your confidence to tell stories that matter in fresh and convincing ways. You learn practical creative techniques to develop powerful stories–and to connect to your intended audiences. The course strengthens skills to communicate effectively about what matters most . You will create 4-5 stories that you can use to communicate about your work and you will learn how to embed effective storytelling in your work.

Joanna understood exactly what we were looking for to enhance colleagues’ skills and confidence to tell powerful stories about their work addressing armed conflict through mediation and dialogue around the world. We worked closely together, adapting the course as we went along to ensure it best suited participants’ needs and made sure they got the most out of being creative! Joanna was brilliant, an expert facilitator and very supportive. The feedback was really positive and colleagues have begun to use stories as part of their work.
